Scotsman titles nominated for 27 press awards

THE SCOTSMAN Publications has 27 nominations across its three titles for this year’s Scottish Press Awards.

The Scotsman, Scotland and Sunday and Edinburgh Evening News were each nominated in the front page of the year category. Political editor of The Scotsman Eddie Barnes was nominated for political journalist of the year, while Martin Flanagan was shortlisted for financial/business journalist of the year.

Three of the five finalists for magazine writer of the year are from the group – Claire Black, Chitra Ramaswamy and Peter Ross. The Scotsman’s Stephen Emerson has also been nominated for website/digital protect of the year.

Three news photographers were recognised for their work – Jane Barlow, Ian Rutherford and Robert Perry, of Scotland on Sunday, who was also shortlisted for sports photographer of the year. Also in sports, Tom English and Aidan Smith compete for feature writer of the year, and Tom English is also up for sports news writer of the year along with The Scotsman’s David Ferguson.

The Scotsman’s John McTernan was nominated as columnist of the year, as well as Scotland on Sunday’s Kenny Farquharson. Cartoonist of the year nominations went to Brian Adcock of The Scotsman and Scotland on Sunday, and Frank Boyle of the Edinburgh Evening News.

Anna Burnside and Catherine Deveney were nominated for feature writer of the year, while Aidan Smith of Scotland on Sunday is up for arts/entertainment journalist. The Edinburgh Evening News secured nominations for journalist team of the year for coverage of the trams, and campaign of the year for “Say No to Coe”. Rory Reynolds was shortlisted for young journalist of the year. The winners will be announced on 19 April.
