Scotsman Photo Competition: Ian McCracken wins April prize

Congratulations to Ian McCracken, who has won April’s Scotsman Photo Competition with this picture of an angry swan chasing a goose round the pond at Beveridge Park in Kirkcaldy.

His effort was picked out by The Scotsman picture editor from hundreds of efforts, and Ian says that he picked up his camera at just the right time.

“By the time I got my hand to the camera, the goose in the pictures had decided to make an exit and by the time I raised the camera to my eye, the swan was in hot pursuit!” he said. “I’m not sure if the swan was defending territory, protecting a nest, or competing for food, but it chased the goose for a full circuit of the pond.”

His prize for winning is a Gorillapod DSLR Zoom Kit tripod and head, worth £80.

The runners-up are John Dewar for his stunning close-up shot of a ladybird in his back garden, and Robin Law’s unusual view of the Firth of Forth, showing a small fishing boat with the Grangemouth oil refinery looming in the background.

Look out for a gallery of the best of the rest on scotsman.com tomorrow.
