Game Expo Scotland will be held next autumn in Edinburgh, the first time a dedicated gaming convention has been held in the country.

Organisers of the inaugural event said the breadth of developer talent across the industry would make for a “premier” expo that would “stand out” from other conventions across Britain.

Along with triple A titles, it promises to show off independent games and retro titles, as well as holding sessions with developers and competitions.

The two-day consumer show will take place over the weekend of Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 October next year at Edinburgh International Conference Centre.

The expo is being co-ordinated by Magdala Media, which has enjoyed considerable success in organising the annual Scottish Bike Show.

Rowan Mackie, the firm’s founder, said it would be liaising with the games industry in Scotland to finalise the expo’s itinerary.

He said: “As anyone familiar with the UK video games industry knows, Scotland plays host to some of the nations most established and emerging talent in the video games sector. It’s home to juggernauts like Rockstar North, alongside the UK’s top universities for video game design and development.

“Having worked on the highly successful Scottish Bike Show and seen that grow over the last three years, it’s important to me to take those same values of transparency across to Games Expo Scotland 2014.

“As Scotland has such a rich and diverse video games industry, alongside a passionate gaming community, their feedback and continued input is what will make Games Expo Scotland 2014 stand out from other UK games events and become the premier Scottish expo for all things video games.”
