In pictures: Louis Vuitton checks in for SS13

Hailed by the fashion press as one of the triumphs of the season, Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2013 was among the closing shows of Paris Fashion week yesterday, bringing with it an end to the global SS13 shows.

Always, along with Chanel, the most hotly-anticipated of the Paris shows - themselves the pinnacle of the fashion month that sees buyers hit New York, London and Milan before the French capital - Marc Jacobs’ thirtieth season at the helm of Louis Vuitton did not disappoint.

On a set occupying the courtyard of the Louvre, designed by French contemporary artist Daniel Buren, pairs of models descended escalators to the white and yellow checkerboard glass runway below, showing complementary versions of a look, and drumming home the scale and clarity of Jacobs vision.

Fresh, demure and minimal 1960s mod-inspired shapes, equal parts Jackie O and Edie Sedgwick - including shift dresses, box suits, cropped tops, pencil skirts, sleek maxi skirts and swing coats - in a fresh and optimistic palette of yellow, white, tan, olive and black, were the perfect illustration of the label’s twin influences; the clean sportswear-inspired glamour of Jacobs’ native New York and the classic chic of Vuitton’s French heritage.

There was, however, no sign of the label’s trademark LV monogram this season, with Jacobs’ reworking of the brand’s iconic checkerboard Damier print, trademarked by them in 1888, taking centre stage.
