In pictures: Classic vessels to celebrate 200 years of steam navigation

PAINTER Ivan Wightman, 62, from Cardross in Argyll, stands by the propeller of the classic cruise ship Balmoral, which was together with paddle steamer Waverley for the first time in the Garvel Clyde dry dock at Greenock in Inverclyde, yesterday.

Both are being prepared for the summer season. In 2012 the ships celebrate 200 years of commercial steam navigation with the anniversary of Henry Bell’s Comet, which was built in Port Glasgow.
