Lost Edinburgh: The Dumbiedykes

For a housing estate, Dumbiedykes must have one of the most picturesque backdrops on earth.

The area was densely populated residential area until the 1960s when the slum clearances razed many of the buildings pictured

above to the ground.

Only Dumbiedykes Road, Viewcraig Street and Viewcraig Gardens still contain council-owned residences.

The rest of the area has received a regeneration building modern flats, student residents and University of Edinburgh sports facilities and is now a popular area to live in due to its closeness to the centre of Edinburgh and the Scottish Parliament.
