Local Buzz: The Stormy Seas

The Stormy Seas formed in summer 2008, inspired by “some of the exciting acoustic music emerging locally around that time”.

But despite early aspirations of playing soft, self-penned, Celtic–inspired folk music, it became clear what was emerging was a fuller, harder sound.

Last year, the band set about began recording what was to become their debut album, Of Rust And Loss.

This proved to be a long process, though their considerable live reputation was maintained in meantime as The Stormy Seas continued to share stages with the likes of Sparrow and the Workshop, James Yorkston, Frightened Rabbit and Broken Records. The band were also invited to London to play at Good Shoes’ Hope and Future festival, and were invited to perform live on the BBC Radio 5 by TV and radio presenter Richard Bacon.

This month finally sees the release of Rust and Loss, which can be heard at a special launch party at the Wee Red Bar on Saturday night.
