Local Buzz: Stanley Odd | Matt Norris and the Moon | Callum Beattie

Promoting the launch of their second album (Reject), Capital hip-hoppers Stanley Odd are on a bit of a roll at the moment.

Sell-out shows, praised by the press, festival favourites and regularly sharing stages with the big hitters of hip hop – surely it’s time for this sextet to make the breakthrough?

Noted for their colourfully cool videos and trendy fashion range, it’s their hi-NRG, high-octane shows, however, that’s the real rap. Fronted by Dave Hook and Veronica Electronika, this groovy twosome’s outfit err on the side of funk and electro, yet remain as accessible as a high-five.

MATT NORRIS AND THE MOON

They look like the offspring of Fairport Convention, have a penchant for beards and scarves, and play indie music on folk instruments.

Yes, the fad for faux-folk music is as popular as ever, and in Norris’s Moonbeams, Edinburgh has its very own answer to Mumford & Sons.

The year started literally with a bang for the five-piece outfit having won the chance to open for Primal Scream on the Main Stage at the Hogmanay Concert In The Gardens.

They’ve been grafting hard ever since, and next week sees a quick return to the ornate surroundings of the Voodoo Rooms following a recent charity event.

Loaded up with fiddles, mandolins, accordions and perhaps even the kitchen sink - if you like your folk with an indie twist, then you’ll love these guys.
