Local Buzz: The Machine Room, Jen and the Gents

Two bands to see this week

THE MACHINE ROOM

PUT together a year ago by former Vivians bassist John Bryden, the local five-piece have already enjoyed national radio play and press plaudits.

Former students at Edinburgh College of Art - whose alumni includes Come On Gang and Snide Rhythms - the band return to the school’s infamous Wee Red Bar tomorrow night, when they will share the bill with the equally brilliant Edinburgh School For The Deaf, which comprises former members of the now-defunct Saint Jude’s Infirmary.

JEN AND THE GENTS

AS you may have guessed from the picture (right), there’s something quirky about this alternative pop/rock three-piece from the Capital.

Quirky is good, though - as are their catchy, skilfully-crafted songs.

Seasoned buskers, you may have already spotted the young band singing for their suppers on the streets of Auld Reekie - though tomorrow evening you can catch them playing live in the far warmer surrounds of Henry’s Cellar Bar.
