Local Buzz: Discopolis, The Spook School

Discopolis

Along with Bwani Junction, local lads Discopolis have been tipped for greatness by NME - so do take this chance to see them play an intimate gig before, inevitably, they go stratospheric.

Quite simply one of the best bands to have come out of the Capital in yonks, the young trio of Fergus Cook, Laurie Corlett-Donald and Dave Lloyd play indie electro music with synths, computers, guitars, drum machines and more.

To date, they’ve only released one single in the UK - the ridiculously catch Lofty Ambitions, which earned them airplay on BBC Radio 1 and was dubbed “tasty” by influential DJ Pete Tong.

But in the last 12 months they’ve impressed at T In The Park, wowed the crowd at Edinburgh’s Hogmanay Street Party, and even released an album in Japan, where they have a growing fan base.

The Spook School

Like the proverbial bus, you wait ages for a decent Edinburgh band and then loads come along at once.

Local Buzz first heard indie-poppers The Spook School after they released catchy single History/Hallam last year - and we’ve been keeping an eye on them ever since.
