Leith’s one-night arts festival expanding to 16 venues

Leith Late, the giant one-night arts festival opening in Leith in late June, expands to 16 venues this year. The offerings range from maverick artist Kevin Harman’s new work, to site-specific shows in bars, a fitness studio, and a portrait photography exhibition in a barber’s shop.

Leith Late, the giant one-night arts festival opening in Leith in late June, expands to 16 venues this year. The offerings range from maverick artist Kevin Harman’s new work, to site-specific shows in bars, a fitness studio, and a portrait photography exhibition in a barber’s shop.

The three-hour event runs on the evening of 28 June, launching shows in several local galleries and followed by an afterparty.

It includes Reels on Wheels, a “white van gallery” touring different venues and showing video work by new Leith artists.

The Whitespace Gallery on Gayfield Square will show new work by Harman.

The artist features in the Edinburgh Art Festival later this summer and is known for a range of sculptures. made from workers’ skips to a collection of stolen doormats.

Amid both music and art shows, with seven new venues this year, The Old Ambulance Depot shows The Making of It, a showcase for international artists, while a tailor’s shop, Oscar’s Alterations, will host Dressing for Facebook, a performance work by artist Katie Orton.

The Leith Walk Barber’s Salon will show an installation of male portraits by photographer Ross Fraser Mclean, whose work has ranged from Los Angeles to China and Istanbul. Griffen Fitness Studio will show work by “performance photographer” Eoin Carey.

The Rhubaba gallery presents It’s Hard to Find a Good Lamp, which explores the cross-over between art, furniture and interior design.
