Leith pub - and its regulars - star in new Magic Numbers music video

ONE of Edinburgh’s most traditional pubs has won a starring role in the latest video for chart-toppers The Magic Numbers.

The Strathie, on Iona Street, in Leith, was chosen by a film production company who won a pitch for the band’s latest video, as they are based just around the corner, on Dalmeny Street.

The video, which was also partly shot on the streets of Leith, also featured several of the pub’s regulars who were in during the day-long shoot.

And at the end of filming the band even played an impromptu gig to the delight of the locals.

Producer Clare Kerr said: “As far as we know it’s the only time The Strathie has ever been featured on film in any way.

“Cagoule, the production company which made the video, is based just around the corner and they were very keen to feature the local neighbourhood.”

Barmaid Heather Baxter said: “It was fantastic to have the film crew and the band in the pub, it’s definitely not something we see round here every day!

“Everyone got involved and had a great time, and we’re really looking forward to seeing the finished video, to spot all our regulars.”

The video for the song, You Don’t Know Me, was shot to help promote a covers album devoted to songs by Brazilian composer Caetano Veloso, which also features tracks by the likes of Beck and Chrissie Hynde.

The video is the only one created for the album to mark Veloso’s 70th birthday.
