Karen Koren: Eggs are hard to see in snow

AT this rate our children are going to be hunting for Easter eggs in the snow. It is absolutely Baltic for this time of year but I still be having my annual egg painting competition on Easter Sunday.

The clocks will be going forward. which means less sleep, and still no daffodils in sight.

My egg painting party has become notorious, as I take it very seriously. There are various categories - portrait, landscape and abstract for 14 and younger, and over 14. Sometimes the adult eggs are not as good as the kids’.

Finn, my grandson, is planning on making his egg into a Dalek. Over the years Finn has seen first hand how good some of the entries have been. There has been a Fifties rocket, a Coca Cola can, a cream egg, a skateboarder, Edinburgh pandas, a lady in a burka, Kermit and a sheep – the list is endless. It makes the judging all the harder.

It amazes me that everyone tries so hard; it’s great. though, as we end the afternoon with a prize-giving ceremony.

Finn is very excited to be going to see Harry Hill tonight. Of course, Harry did his apprenticeship at the Fringe and hung out at the Gilded Balloon. A lovely man, he deserves his success as he worked very hard to carve a niche for himself in the family friendly market.

It’s satisfying to be able to say to Finn I know someone on television, as he is still of the age that television holds a mystique.

Maybe I can persuade Harry to come to my Easter party. Now wouldn’t that be a coup?
