It’s a scream: Edvard Munch painting goes on display

A RARE print of one of the world’s most famous paintings will go on show later this year when a major private collection comes to the UK for the first time.

Edvard Munch’s The Scream will go on public view for five months at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art in Edinburgh.

The print was made by Munch himself and is one of only two in existence which were hand-coloured by the Norwegian artist.

The 1895 work will go on display at the gallery along with more than 50 of Munch’s most important prints, including hand-coloured impressions.

The artworks are contained in The Gundersen Collection, a private collection of Munch’s lithographs and woodcuts described by gallery chiefs as “outstanding”.

The exhibition will be supplemented with additional prints. The show opens on 7 April and runs until 23 September.
