It’s Ladies Night and the Third Door

ECLECTIC is the key word as Amy Duncan’s acoustic night returns with a diverse line-up of female performers for its first show of 2012.

Appearing at The Third Door tonight are Patricia Panther, Lisa Rigby, Cora Bissett (pictured) and, of course, Duncan herself.

First up will be Panther, a singer-songwriter with a unique style who performed at the last Burnsong event.

“I love creating and making music especially when the result is weird and interesting,” she says. “I wouldn’t categorise myself and say I only do a certain type of genre, as I tend to mash many sounds together.”

Then there’s Rigby, a singer with Edinburgh-based acoustic trio Townhouse.

She recently launched her second solo album, Transition, and she’ll be playing a selection of songs from that record.

Bissett needs less introduction. She started playing in bands at 17 after answering an advert in the local Fife paper and soon joined Darlingheart, who signed a five-album deal with major label Phonogram.

Since the band split in 2000, she has become an award-winning theatre director and actor. But she continues to write songs and will perform a solo set. The evening is wrapped up by host Duncan, who says, “I’ll be playing a short set of new songs. I am currently planning my fourth album, for which the bare bones of these songs will be warmed by strings, harp and drums.”
