Gig previews: Gathering Lights | The Mike Kearney Ka-tet

SOMETHING of a supergroup, Gathering Lights play their first-ever gig tonight. The Edinburgh outfit are made up from members of other notable local bands and features musos from X-Tigers, Penguins Kill Polar Bears, Lions Chase Tigers and Cry Over Billionaires.

They’ll be lighting up Electric Circus this evening supporting the aforementioned Penguins Kill Polar Bears.

Influenced by Explosions In The Sky and At The Drive In, there’s every chance this could be the debut of another great combo from the Capital. As their name suggests, the future’s bright - so switch on.

The Mike Kearney Ka-tet

THIS combo have been churning out unstoppable grooves for the past two years now, yet they’ve never become jaded. That’s because they are a finely-honed seven-piece funk machine. The Ka-tet are now focusing on their second album so put on your dancing shoes, get your groove on, and strut on down to Chambers Street for a funkadelic experience of James Brown proportions.
