Get up offa that thing for James Brown Is Annie

“THE most rewarding thing about being asked to play the Street Party is that we’ve been picked purely on account of our funky music,” says James Brown Is Annie guitarist Barry Gordon. “This goes to show that you don’t need a cheesy gimmick, 10,000 Facebook ‘likes’, or to wear matching outfits to get noticed.

“We’ve never had any support from Scotland’s notable magazines, or its mainstream radio stations,” he goes on. “Despite this, it’s not stopped us gaining the attentions of legendary bands such as Little Feat or the Average White Band, who have invited us to open for them at gigs.”

It’s been a great year for JBIA, and being the only unsigned band to receive high billing at the Street Party is the icing on the cake for a group renowned for their slick instrumental grooves and hook-laden songs.

“Everything we’ve achieved has come as a result of good, old-fashioned hard work,” says Gordon. “It gives us great pleasure to be representing this fabulous city of ours at the best street party in the world.”
