Fashion: Proof beauty can be skin deep

It’s time to take fashion tips from some cold blooded friends. Snakeskin slithered its way down an abundance of runways for autumn winter 2011/12 and now it has finally slid on to our high street.

There are many ways to wear the look and none of them will leave you looking like Bet Lynch.

Chloe showed the softer side of skins in its collection by printing the pattern on silks and chiffons for a bohemian twist to the look.

Taking inspiration from Chloe’s runway, look out for floaty tops complete with snake print and pair them with full-length maxi skirts. You want to keep this style soft and expensive looking, sodouble up on tops to create depth of material. To add another texture dimension, look for some velvet jeans to imitate the reptilian vibe.

Over at Gucci they went for strong tailoring in jewel tones accessorised with wide-brimmed hats and cinched in belts.

You will find statement hats in every store on the high street, with Zara and Whistles super-sizing that brim width for some real designer appeal. There is also a plethora of prints in jewel tones too, so tie your choice of headgear in with that.

Valentino and Prada kept their skins to a minimum, using it on handbags, shoes and boots for a pop of print rather than drenching their models from top to toe.

This is probably the easiest way to ease yourself into the trend. You’ll find snakeskin on most types of footwear from party platforms to flat pumps, and the same goes for and handbags. Opt for oversized clutches to inject a bit of edgy elegance to whatever you are wearing.

If you take the lead from the designers you have three easy ways of incorporating the look into your wardrobe, through accessorising, dressing for daytime, or glamming it for evening wear.

You can have a bit of fun with the trend too by introducing other patterns and textures, such as leopard print and suedes.
