The free event, which celebrates The Year of Natural Scotland, will take place on August 10 and 11 at the Perthshire attraction and will be centred around the three elements that go into the production of whisky - water, wood and barley.

Nestled in the woodland next to Glenturret Distillery – Scotland’s oldest distillery – a giant cask walkway will form the hub of the event which marks the brand’s birthday. From here, a woodland trail will guide visitors to the individual science workshops found among the trees.

For adults, there will also be the chance to meet the Master Blender, have the opportunity to ‘blend your own whisky’ and see how casks are made – with live cooper demonstrations.

For children, bug hunts and bubble shows (Saturday only), music workshops and theatre shows will also be held.

The Famous Grouse Café will also be open all weekend serving teas, coffees and light refreshments using local produce.

“The brand birthday is an important date in our calendar and we are looking forward to welcoming visitors to our first science festival,” said Tracy McCafferty, general manager at The Famous Grouse Experience.

“In The Year of Natural Scotland, what better way to mark it than a family-friendly festival celebrating the natural elements of wood, water and barley that come together to make Scotland’s favourite whisky?”

This year the Famous Grouse will turn 108. Originally called The Grouse Brand, it was on August 12, 1905, that the founder Matthew Gloag renamed it the Famous Grouse. As a result August 12 became the official brand birthday.
