Falkirk’s historic town centre to get a facelift

ONE of Scotland’s most historic town centres is set to undergo a £2 million facelift.

A long-awaited overhaul for Falkirk’s town steeple is promised as part of the project, which has received the backing of the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Historic streets will be revamped and run-down buildings brought back into use.

Falkirk Council will also join forces with Historic Scotland, town centre managers, businesses and local historians to raise awareness of the history of the town, from its role as a historic battle site, to 18th century cattle town and “engine room” of the industrial revolution. The town’s steeple dates back to 1814.
