Dougie MacLean forced to call off his own music festival

Scottish singer-songwriter Dougie MacLean says he has been forced to cancel his own music festival due to the coronavirus pandemic in the latest hammer blow to Perthshire’s economy.

MacLean says November’s annual Perthshire Amber event, which has been worth £1 million to the economy and has attracted fans from 26 countries in the past, has had to be put on hold because its events “all thrive on physical closeness.”

A statement posted on the festival website by his wife Jenny said: “Please understand that Dougie and I, as well as our festival team, are truly disappointed that we just can’t make plans to welcome you all to Perthshire this year.

“Having sought advice from many trusted sources we’re realising it is unlikely that the ban on large gatherings and the requirement for social distancing in general will be lifted before the end of this year in Scotland.

“Above everything else, we must all do our best to keep ourselves, our team and our valued ‘festival-goers’ safe and well.”

This year’s Enchanted Forest light show, which was due to attract 80,000 visitors to Pitlochry in October, was cancelled earlier this month.
