Comedy review: Matt Price: The Weed Fairy

Edinburgh Festival Fringe: If you are a bit down, go and see this show. Matt Price has a way with a story that makes you feel like you've found a friend.

Laughing Horse @ Cabaret Voltaire (Venue 338)

***

This time the story is about skateboarding, his dad (the eponymous Weed Fairy) and a fake life coach. An hour with Matt is funny, touching and always totally honest.

And that, in a world of fake, is something to be cherished. Audiences come in as individuals but go out as friends of the big, earnest Cornish bloke who has told them a crazy tale of drugs and criminals, and sadness and skateboarding and taught them how to speak Cornish and made them laugh and nearly made them cry. There are a lot of comics around who think they are storytelling but what they are doing is just papering over the unfunny bits of their set with a bolted- on narrative. Matt is a genuine teller of tales and that is a skill all of its own. This is a wonderfully relaxing hour and I highly recommend it.

Until 27 August. Today 7:45pm.
