Comedy review: Kriss Foster And The Very Small Museum

Kriss Foster is the sweet, mild-mannered curator of the Very Small Museum and in this gently enjoyable hour, we are shown around the exhibits, hear some stories of working in Safeway as a cleaner, get the chance to win 50p by identifying music (we fail, which means the 50p is rolled over to tomorrow), warm to tales of his winning a Blue Peter Badge, and learn how he has written an episode of Coronation Street.

Star rating: ***

Venue: Globe Bar (Venue 161)

All the stories are linked to exhibits in the Very Small Museum and the order in which we hear them is determined by the audience, and a tense game of Pass The Museum. Foster is also a singer and we get some lovely songs about things that pop up in the show, like his cat. And the Cumberland Pencil Museum. There is a tragic tale of lost love at Bolton West Services, some Scrabble-based entertainment, a list of things Kriss likes. He is a genuinely engaging performer and by the time he faces his demons to play Daisy Daisy on the violin, we are all willing him on. Fans of EF Schumacher will already know that Small is Beautiful. It is also very funny.

Until 28 August. Tomorrow 6pm.
