A soulful start to the weekend, DJs Lel Palfrey and Dennis Probert play a blissful selection of funk, soul, disco and House for the after work crowd/pre-club crowd.

XPLICIT PRES. RUSKO (UK TOUR)

Leeds-born, LA-based dub step pioneer Rusko aka Christopher Mercer makes his Edinburgh appearance as part of a seven-day UK tour. He’s now on to his second album which features collaborations with West Coast hip hop heroes Cypress Hill. The highly accomplished producer has remixed everyone from Adele and Katy Perry, to The Temper Trap, Prodigy and Skunk Anansie.

Swedish techno DJ Samuel L. Session founded SLS and Cycle Records, who now runs the underground techno imprint Klap Klap. Very much in high-demand, SLS releases tracks on SOMA, DRUMCODE and MUSIC MAN. Expect a score of riveting techno to shake the ice your boots. Support from Stephen Brown (LIVE), Wolfjazz, Keyte and Hammy.

BLACK SCIENCE - ELEMENTS OF DANCE

Fans of Masters at Work take note - mixologist Martin Valentine won’t disappoint with his selection of deep house and garage in room one. Edinburgh’s finest hip hop connoisseur, Nasty P rubs down the plates in room two. Wired for Sound and Mondo Loco DJ long-player, Steven Wanless slips his cans on to play out a deep groove in the Voltaire bar upstairs.

Substance bid farewell to the Bongo, with their guest - UK techno pioneer Anthony Child aka Surgeon. His constantly evolving, razor sharp performance style is amongst the best in the World, with support from Gav Richardson. It will be a thumping night of techno.

ROBIGANS REGGIE PRES RHODA DAKAR

The queen of 2 Tone Records is best known as lead singer in 70’s ska/Reggie group, The Body snatchers. They had hits with Let’s Do Rock steady and Ruder than you - which reached no.22 in the UK singles Chart. Dakar’s collaborations have been hugely successful, notably for The Specials and Madness.

The Newsroom continues to blur the lines between drinking den and mini-club, all thanks to Harry Bennetts love for all things deep house and disco. One20 specialize in slo-mo disco-house grooves playing parties at Shindig, Block Party and WeLove. Disco and funky house comes by way of Rahaan, who brings a Chicago vibe laced with soulful disco. Not to be missed.
