Catwalk classics to fund art

HUNDREDS of vintage designer pieces will go on sale next month in a one-of-a-kind pop-up shop to help fund the Scottish art world.

The Art Fund, which provides financial support for artistic ventures from local galleries to great works of art, is holding a sale of vintage designer clothing that features shoes designed by Ferragamo, Jimmy Choo and Miu Miu as well as clothes by Jean Muir, Chloe, Armani, Vera Wang and Diane von Furstenberg.

Highlights – which have been donated by members of the public – include an 1890s black velvet dolman coat trimmed in chantilly lace, a vintage Pringle cape and a 1950s Caroline Charles skirt.

Deirdre Armstrong, chair of The Art Fund in Edinburgh, said: “This is a departure from our traditional fundraising activities such as lectures and gallery visits.

“On offer will be retro and contemporary pieces, costume jewellery and accessories, decorative antiques, quirky kitchenalia and children’s clothes.”

The pop-up sale will take place in Bourne Fine Art Gallery in Edinburgh on 17 May.
