Breed honours Bobby

THE Capital’s most famous dog has been honoured after it was revealed its breed is under threat.

A group of Skye Terriers and their owners gathered in Greyfriars Kirkyard to pay respect to their famous ancestor Bobby.

The event, which coincided with the Scottish Kennel Club Championships, was organised by the Skye Terrier Club.

Cathie McLeod, secretary of the club, said: “The Scottish branch of the Skye Terrier Club felt that getting people and their dogs together for a visit was a great way to celebrate the most famous Skye Terrier in the world.”

The Evening News told recently how the Skye Terrier was now considered a vulnerable breed and is at risk of dying out, with yearly registration figures of less than 300 puppies.
