Book sculpture artist posts new work to trust

IT’S another chapter in the mystery of the artist and the book sculptures.

Staff at the Edinburgh Unesco City of Literature Trust, in Buccleuch Place, became the latest to receive one of the remarkable pieces after a package was delivered yesterday.

Inside a parcel marked “In support of libraries, books, words & ideas”, they found an intricate and delicately made book in the shape of an old-fashioned travelling trunk, complete with hinged lid and travel stickers.

Director Ali Bowden said: “I really couldn’t believe that something as delicate and irreplaceable as a book sculpture would appear so quietly in the post. It was incredibly exciting.

“We huddled round, opened it and inside found a lovely travel chest with a glorious paper sculpture inside. We couldn’t believe our eyes.”

The first sculpture of a tree was discovered on a table in the Scottish Poetry Library in March 11.

Since then, similar creations have been delivered to the National Library of Scotland, the Central Library, the Scottish Storytelling Centre, Leith Library and even Rebus writer Ian Rankin.
