Blair Castle photography competition

SCOTSMAN.COM has teamed up with Blair Castle in Blair Atholl, Perthshire, to give both professional and amateur photographers the chance to get their image printed on a postcard and sold in Blair Castle’s gift shop which sees over 150,000 people visit from across the globe each year.

• Most outstanding image wins VIP package for four to Blair Castle and Atholl Estates

Entrants are asked to submit an image which covers one of the following four themes, with one winning image being selected for each.

1. Family


2. Wildlife & Nature


3. Landscape


4. History

There will also be a special Under 16s category, with entrants asked to submit an image that reflects one of the above themes. One winning image will be selected from this group.

Those taking part in the competition will be offered FREE entry to the 700 year old Castle and Estate on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th September to capture their winning shot. Access will include the Castle, the Castle’s stunning gardens, plus the Estate’s trails and lochs.

Alongside a winning image being selected in each category, there will also be a prize for ‘the most outstanding’ image. The winner will receive a VIP package for up to four people including:

An overnight stay in one of the Estate’s lodges

A Castle tour

A Land Rover Safari tour which takes you off the beaten track and into the hills to explore the 145,000 acre estate

Lunch in the Castle’s restaurant

A fishing session on the Estate with their resident ghillie

Those with the difficult task of judging entries will be the Scotsman’s long standing picture editor, Andy O’Brian, and Sarah Troughton, the Head of Trustees for Blair Castle and Atholl Estates.

Those whose entries are shortlisted will also have the opportunity of having their pictures used as part of a photography exhibition in the Castle later this year.

The competition is open for entries from Thursday 23rd August – Sunday 23rd September.

Photography should be no bigger than 1mb.

All entries should be sent no later than by 12 midnight on Thursday 20th September. The winning entrants will be informed by telephone by the 20th of October.
