Arts on the web: The Scotsman radar | Blank Canvas

Each week we source one song or podcast, along with one video or short film for our readers. This week sees the latest Scotsman Radar podcast, and the video for ‘By the Fire,’ the debut single by Edinburgh band Blank Canvas.

Listen: The Scotsman’s Radar Podcast

You are, surely, already aware that the Scotsman has a new music blog at radar.scotsman.com, which offers a weekly round-up of Scottish indie music news, plus interviews, videos and gig reviews. Here’s its latest podcast, which just went online and has an interview with Errors, plus music by The Son(s), Holy Mountain and Le Thug. You can stream it online, download it as an MP3 or subscribe to the podcast on iTunes.

Watch: By the Fire, by Blank Canvas

At the end of last week, T in the Park announced its line-up for the festival’s T Break stage. You can see the whole list of competition winners at www.tennents.co.uk/tbreak, but here’s a video by one of our favourites. If you’re a fan of Postcard records era Scottish pop, then you’ll love Edinburgh band Blank Canvas, whose debut single By The Fire bears more than a passing resemblance to Josef K and Orange Juice. This video is by Quintana Films, best known for the numerous short films they’ve made with another of the capital’s most promising bands, electropop trio Discopolis.
