Spiritualized: Sweet Heart Sweet Light

HHHHH

Double Six, £11.99

FRONTMAN Jason Pearce delivers another exquisite dose of that good, good medicine on the seventh Spiritualized album.

The prescription is virtually the same as ever – a healing mix of lysergic rhythm’n’blues, the sweet ache of comedown ballads, plaintive pleas for redemption, a shot of salvation and a handful of mini-odysseys. Headin’ For The Top Now canters along like Spacemen 3’s Take Me To The Other Side without the cathartic payload, while the pounding garage rock of Hey Jane morphs into a carefree Krautrock outro.

Plus, there are a couple of unexpected new ingredients – the raw anguished blues of Pearce’s vocal on Mary and the mainstream soul pop of Little Girl – if you’re looking for a fresh hit.
