The tennis ace was given a VIP tour of the residence of the President of the United States on Saturday.

And the Scot found himself in a sniper’s sights as he took a photo of a gun-toting guard on the roof of the building.

The world number three didn’t get the chance to meet President Obama who wasn’t at home at the time.

But joked that he thought the President was Frank Underwood, the character played by his showbusiness pal Kevin Spacey in hit TV series House of Cards.

The 28-year-old is clearly a House of Cards fan as he posted a picture on his Instagram account inside the White House titled: “Got the chance to visit the White House yesterday! Was a very cool experience. Unfortunately president Underwoo... Sorry Obama wasn’t there.”

He also posted an image of a sniper on the roof of the West Wing with the message: “Here’s another one from just outside the west wing... Can you spot the sniper up there on the roof of the residence?”

Following a few weeks of well-earned rest, Andy Murray returns to competitive action on the American hard courts at the ATP Citi Open in Washington this week.

He was beaten in the semi-finals of Wimbledon by Roger Federer before leading Great Britain to victory against France in the Davis Cup.

Murray will also compete in the Montreal and Cincinnati Masters before his attention turns to the US Open at the end of August.
