Water of Leith: Investigations are ongoing as police confirm body recovered was 57-year-old man

Police Scotland has confirmed that the body recovered from the Water of Leith on Saturday morning was a 57-year-old man.

His identity has not been released but police said on Sunday morning that his next of kin have been informed.

One Leith resident said that at least four ambulances were heading along Ferry Road towards the scene at around 8:20am on Saturday, April, 10 – including an incident response unit, as well as national risk and resilience department vehicles.

It is understood that the emergency services left the scene at around 9:30am.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 7.55am on Saturday, 10 April, 2021, we received a report of the body of a man in the Water of Leith near Couper Street in Edinburgh.

“The body of a 57-year-old man was recovered from the water and his next of kin have been informed.

"Inquiries into the circumstances are ongoing and as with all sudden deaths, a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
