Steven Gerrard confirmed the club will contest the charge with the hearing set for Tuesday.

The striker, a second half substitute in today’s draw with Hamilton, was booked by referee David Munro for a challenge on St Johnstone midfielder Murray Davidson in the 1-0 win over the Saint at Ibrox during the week.

The club received the charge for the player on Friday with the SFA having examined the footage and opted to take retrospective action.

Gerrard said at the time: “In terms of the tackle I haven't really thought much of it because I thought the referee dealt with it, he was five yards away and he's obviously seen the incident and given a yellow card.”

St Johnstone boss Callum Davidson didn't think there was any malice in the challenge with Roofe appearing to try and shield the ball but caught Davdison eye on his shin.
