Youth is given its fling

The exciting aspect of Sunday's first major meeting of the season, the Loughborough International, is the number of young athletes, some still juniors, who have had invitations to the meeting with some being rewarded with places in the Great Britain junior team.

Emma Nuttall (Edinburgh AC) will be able to renew rivalry with clubmate Jayne Nisbet in the high jump, Nisbet taking the Scottish team place.Likewise Loughborough-based Myra Perkins throws the hammer for the GB juniors against Scottish champion Susan McKelvie (EAC) whom she leads in the 2011 rankings. Firrhill schoolboy Tom Holligan (EAC) makes his senior debut in the 200 metres and relay, in the latter joined by clubmate Allan Hamilton, who has also been added to the long jump.
