Workforce to make his season debut

All eyes will be on Workforce as the Derby and Arc hero makes his eagerly-awaited seasonal debut in the Piper Heidsieck Champagne Brigadier Gerard Stakes at Sandown this evening.

Despite his obvious claims, the Sir Michael Stoute-trained colt has not been handed a simple task. He has to give all his rivals 7lb and he was beaten at his only previous attempt at a mile and a quarter in the Dante Stakes at York last May.

Cavalryman was beaten only seven and a half lengths when eighth to Workforce in the Arc, but his jockey, Frankie Dettori, is just pleased to have Godolphin's five-year-old back in action.

"I rode him last week and he feels in good health. He's had the winter off and this is a good race to start him off in," said Dettori,. "We shouldn't trouble Workforce really, but we'll see how we get on.

On a top-class card, Richard Hannon is double-handed with Magic City and Sixx as he bids to win the Piper Heidsieck National Stakes.
