Women’s Six Nations: Italy 29 - 12 Scotland; Wooden spoon for Scotland despite scoring first points

Scotland’s women ended their RBS Six Nations with a whitewash after losing 29-12 against Italy in Brescia yesterday.

But although it is now 14 matches in the tournament since the Scots posted a win, they had the consolation of ending a points drought that had lasted more than 600 minutes.

Italy reached the break with a 17-0 lead after Manuela Furlan, Michaela Este and Vanessa Chiandamo touched down and Veronica Schiavon added a conversion. Chiara Castellarin bagged the fourth try early in the second half and Schiavon again converted. But the Scots finally scored when replacement winger Lauren Harris raced over between the sticks for a fine solo score and Lisa Ritchie converted. That was swiftly followed by a second touchdown, this time from Sarah Dixon.

However, the hosts had the final word with their fifth try through Cristina Molic, condemning the Scots to a second successive wooden spoon.
