Wigan remain on top with Wakefield win

WIGAN cemented their position at the Engage Super League summit with a 54-14 home win against Wakefield.

The Warriors romped into a 32-0 half-time lead after six first-half tries, with Pat Richards and Amos Roberts scoring two apiece.

The visitors fought back with three tries in 10 minutes but the early-season pacesetters eased home to their ninth victory from 10 so far.

Wigan finished with 10 tries as Liam Farrell crossed on debut while Goulding and Richards each completed hat-tricks, with Richards finishing with a 26-point haul. However, the match was marred by a suspected broken leg for Wigan full-back Roberts while scoring his second try – and 12th in ten games.

Chris Hicks claimed a hat-trick as Warrington ground down injury-hit Hull 29-10 to maintain their flying start.

Richie Myler and Michael Monaghan also touched down at the KC Stadium while Wolves talisman Lee Briers made a welcome return to action to keep up the pressure on league leaders Wigan.

Elsewhere, Salford beat Huddersfield 30-18, St Helens ran out comfortable 52-18 winners at Castleford, Bradford edged Crusaders 20-16, Hull KR won 52-12 at Harlequins and Leeds defeated the Catalans 34-24 in Perpignan.
