Weir thrilled with strength of his team for PGA Cup

RUSSELL Weir last night hailed the quality of the team he will captain in this year's PGA Cup in California as "outstanding" after it was finalised following the completion of the Glenmuir PGA Professional Championship.

Matt Morris (Walmley) and John Wells (Cherry Burton) came through a thrilling and exhaustive five-man play-off at The Belfry to secure the final two places in the Cowal pro's line-up. They will join forces with Craig Goodfellow (Carlisle Driving Range), Robert Giles (Greenore), Gary Brown (Ganton), Simon Edwards (Windermere), Christopher Gill (Exeter), David Mortimer (Galway), David Shacklady (Mossock Hall) and Stuart Little (Minchinhampton).

"The quality of our players is outstanding," said Weir, an eight-time PGA Cup player. "I have seen them at the past two Glenmuir PGA Professional championships and have been more than impressed. It is good to have the experience of players like Simon Edwards and Craig Goodfellow."

Earlier, Goodfellow secured his place by winning the PGA's flagship title with his fourth successive round under par in the 78,000 event.
