Walker targets big finish in India and Dubai

HAVING spent the past month practising in Dubai, Kylie Walker is confident her game won’t be coming out of cold storage for the final two events on this season’s Ladies European Tour.

The circuit swings back into action following a break with this week’s Hero Indian Open in New Delhi before moving to Dubai next week for the season-ending Omega Ladies Masters.

Walker is lying 49th on the moneylist with earnings of just under £40,000 and is determined to end her campaign with a flourish.

After back-to-back events in China at the end of October, the Carrick on Loch Lomond player headed for Dubai instead of coming home to Scotland.

“My brother Chris, who caddies for me, and my two sisters live in Dubai, so I was there for a month,” said Walker.

“I’m really lucky because I don’t think I could get much done at this time of year in Scotland. Instead, I was able to prepare myself well for these last two events.”

The two-time St Rule Trophy winner finished 68th on the moneylist in her rookie season last year and is gradually finding her feet in the paid ranks.

“This year I’ve felt much more comfortable on Tour,” she added. “In your first year, everything is new to you but this year you know all the people and that helps make being on Tour feel like home.

“I’ve had some really good spells. August was a good month after the qualifying for the British Open [at Carnoustie] and then making the cut.

“[Playing in a major] was a whole new experience and then, after that, I played some good stuff until the end of September.”

During that run, she finished fifth in the Scottish Open at Archerfield Links, eighth in Austria and fourth in the Czech Republic.

“Unfortunately, I then caught a bug when I was in Spain and wasn’t very well, so my game kind of took a wee downturn,” she said. “But, overall, there’s been an improvement this season. Things have gone forward, so it’s been a good year.”

Securing a slice of the prize funds on offer in the next two weeks would make it even better.
