Volleyball: Table-toppers Edinburgh in waiting game

CITY of Edinburgh women’s volleyball team must watch and wait as the final full Saturday of the regular season draws to a close tomorrow.

The capital side have already completed their programme – a rescheduled 25-10, 25-9, 25-10 win over South Ayrshire – and sit at the top of the table.

But it could not be tighter in the race for the play-off seedings with Troon PA needing a straight sets win over Team Lanarkshire to squeeze past them. Any sort of victory will draw the Ayrshire side level with Edinburgh at the top and it will then go down to sets percentage.

If North Lanarkshire can even take a set, then Edinburgh would take top spot and the No 1 seeding for the play-offs on a better sets percentage.

The top four are assured of their places in the play-offs but the order they finish has yet to be determined with Edinburgh Jets and Su Ragazzi – who meet tomorrow – still disputing third and fourth.

Edinburgh’s NUVOC finish up at bottom-of-the-table Troon KC knowing they are free from relegation worries.

In the men’s first division of the Schelde Sports Scottish League, leaders City of Edinburgh host South Ayrshire. They also face Edinburgh Jets in the Scottish Cup semi-final a week on Sunday. Jets warm up for that game by hosting City of Glasgow Ragazzi.
