Volleyball: McGivern in play-off fight

Former City of Edinburgh middle blocker Mark McGivern faces an uphill battle to play in the French Pro A Volleyball League next season.

Playing alongside fellow Scottish and Great Britain international Chris Lamont, his French team ASUL Lyon lost 22-25,  20-25, 22-25 to Plessis- Robinson in the first leg of their promotion play-off in Paris.

Lyon went into the match as favourites after finishing higher in the league. But Plessis-Robinson, in the Pro B play-offs for the first time, are now within touching distance of the top flight. Lyon now need to turn the  tables in Friday’s second leg to achieve their goal of promotion.
