Volleyball: Jets facing make-or-break games in league and cup

The spotlight falls on the women’s second division of the Schelde Sports Scottish Volleyball League tomorrow with Edinburgh Jets II facing the crunch at the top.

Jets prepare for the most 
important eight days of their season as they take on Kyle Team Ayrshire in their top-of-the-table clash at St Augustine’s High tomorrow (2:30pm) before hosting first division North Lanarkshire in the Scottish Cup quarter-finals on February 23.

Jets II have lost only once in the league this season, but only lead the second division on sets difference from Kyle.

A win tomorrow would put them on course for the title and a possible first division place.

The cup clash with North Lanarkshire offers them a chance to make history and, remarkably, there could be an all-Edinburgh semi-final 
line-up, although admittedly it is a long shot.

The quarter-final draw has kept apart the four remaining Edinburgh teams in the ­competition for the ties a week tomorrow.

But whereas holders City of Edinburgh will expect to get through against non-league St Andrews University, and Edinburgh Jets should have too much firepower for second division Glasgow International, Capital sides are up against it in the remaining ties.

Not only does Jets II’s task look onerous, but for NUVOC to win at Troon Team Ayrshire in the remaining tie would require the upset of the season.

There are no top division matches tomorrow, but, in the men’s second division, Jets II travel to Aberdeen to face second-placed Beacon and Jets III meet NUVOC.
