Volleyball: High-flying Jets plan an Ayrshire attack

Scottish Cup semi-finalists Edinburgh Jets turn their attentions to league matters tomorrow as they seek to preserve their status in the men’s Schelde Sports Scottish Volleyball League.

Jets currently sit third bottom of the table but can virtually secure their place in the top flight with a win over bottom-of-the-table South Ayrshire.

Three points would ease the strain on Jets who are just above Troon PA on sets difference but the Ayrshire side have a punishing run-in.

It is difficult seeing them taking anything from their remaining matches – against Glasgow Mets, City of Glasgow Ragazzi and Bon Accord.

At least one Edinburgh side is guaranteed a place in this season’s Scottish Cup final with Jets being paired with unbeaten City of Edinburgh in this week’s semi-final draw.

In the women’s first division, Troon PA and City of Edinburgh are battling it out to finish top and secure top seeding for the play-offs.

If Troon PA – who host Edinburgh’s NUVOC tomorrow – can win all three of their remaining matches without dropping a set then they would finish top. Any slip-up would hand Edinburgh the chance to take top spot and the all-important number one seeding.
