Volleyball: City loss opens title race up

Troon PA coach Vince Krawczyk maintains the chase for the Schelde Sports Scottish Women's Volleyball League title is wide open after watching his team stun City of Edinburgh.

The Ayrshire side returned home from South Queensferry with a 25-11, 25-23, 10-25, 25-20 victory to leapfrog the Capital side and go top.

Edinburgh had not conceded a set in the league before the weekend but Krawczyk is too long in the tooth to go overboard about Saturday's win particularly as Edinburgh are traditionally stronger in the second half of the season.

"I think there are as many as five teams capable of winning the league this season," Scotland's most successful club coach stated. "It is not just between ourselves and City of Edinburgh as you also have Edinburgh Jets, North Lanarkshire and Su Ragazzi."

Jets brushed aside South Ayrshire 25-11, 25-20, 25-15 to move into joint-second alongside City of Edinburgh, who have a better sets difference.

In the men's first division, City of Glasgow Ragazzi suffered their first loss, going down 20-25, 23-25, 25-22, 20-25 at Kilmarnock Blaze.

It gave City of Edinburgh the chance to take over the league leadership on sets difference as they won 25-18, 25-20, 21-25, 25-16 away from home against Dundee.
