Volleyball: City on fire against Blaze

City OF EDINBURGH kept their two-point advantage at the top of the men’s Schelde Sports Scottish Volleyball League by defeating Kilmarnock Blaze 25-16, 21-25, 26-24, 25-20, but player-coach Barry McGuigan admitted the match could have gone either way.

Winning the tight third set gave City the momentum and they maintain their 100 per cent record in all competitions.

With only two rounds of league fixtures before Christmas, the 2010 champions still have players to return.

Third-placed Kilmarnock have now lost twice and reigning champions Glasgow Mets look the most likely to push Edinburgh all the way. Mets comfortably overcame Troon PA at the weekend 25-10, 25-22, 25-23 to stay second.

In the women’s first division, NUVOC found leaders Troon PA too much to handle and went down in straight sets 18-25, 8-25, 18-25. City of Edinburgh women beat Troon KC 25-20, 25-19, 25-16.
