Volleyball: City of Edinburgh edge nearer to Scottish title

City of Edinburgh have the men’s Schelde Sports Scottish Volleyball League title in their sights after beating City of Glasgow Ragazzi 20-25, 25-19, 25-14, 25-21.

It kept their four-point lead at the top and they can wrap up the title by beating Glasgow Mets in South Queensferry in their penultimate match on Saturday. Only Kilmarnock Blaze, the reigning champions, can now catch Edinburgh on sets difference.

Blaze kept their hopes alive by beating Edinburgh Jets 21-25, 25-22, 25-23, 25-22 on Saturday.

City of Edinburgh II secured the men’s Division Two (East) title as they maintained their unbeaten record with a 25-20, 22-25, 25-23, 26-24 win over Beacon. They now look forward to next month’s promotion play-offs and the chance to join their first-team in the top flight.

The women’s title is now a straight fight between Troon Team Ayrshire and City of Edinburgh, as is now becoming a familiar scenario.

Troon saw off Edinburgh Jets 25-22, 19-25, 25-20, 25-22 and Edinburgh came through in four sets at Su Ragazzi, 3-1.
