Volleyball: City of Edinburgh aiming to do the double

CITY OF EDINBURGH are chasing a double with the first silverware of the Scottish volleyball season up for grabs tomorrow.

In the men’s John Syer Trophy final, Edinburgh face Kilmarnock Blaze and, in the women’s competition, Edinburgh take on Troon Team Ayrshire, with both finals at Ravenscraig Sports Facility in Lanarkshire.

Edinburgh will start as slight favourites for the men’s competition after an unbeaten season so far.

The next three matches will be pivotal to their season as they travel to Glasgow Mets in the Schelde Sports Scottish League tomorrow and then face Kilmarnock in the league on December 8.

If they can hold onto their unbeaten record, then it will serve them well as they know they will get stronger after Christmas with players back from injury.

In tomorrow’s women’s final, Edinburgh go into the match as underdogs.

Defending champions Jets narrowly failed to make the final but they must switch their attention back to the league tomorrow where they have a crunch match against improving North Lanarkshire.

Meanwhile, Scotland women’s coach Craig Faill has included three City of Edinburgh players in his squad for the Novotel Cup in Luxembourg from January 4-6.

Naomi Symonds, Jen Thom and libero Fiona Kennie have all been named for the tournament and Jill Runciman is included from Jets.
