Volleyball: Blaze burn City fingers to end run

City OF EDINBURGH surrendered the last remaining unbeaten record in Scottish volleyball this season when they lost 25-23, 20-25, 25-27, 23-25 at Kilmarnock Blaze.

It brought their 17-match undefeated run to an end and served as a reminder that there is still work to do if they are to capture more silverware this season.

With only two league matches left, Edinburgh will not lose their top position and No.  1 seeding in the play-offs, but the defeat will give their title rivals some encouragement.

Edinburgh Jets eased their fears of relegation with a convincing 25-13, 25-18, 25-15 victory at winless South Ayrshire. The win moved them up to fifth in the league after City of Glasgow Ragazzi’s defeat by Bon Accord but the play-offs are out of reach.

In the women’s first division of the Schelde Sports Scottish League, City of Edinburgh remain in second after easing past Troon KC 25-14, 25-12, 25-18.

Troon PA continue to lead the league on sets difference after beating Edinburgh’s NUVOC 25-10, 25-10, 25-13. Edinburgh Jets booked their play-off spot with a 25-8, 25-19, 25-23 win at South Ayrshire and Su Ragazzi have made the top four after ending North Lanarkshire’s slim hopes.
