Under-18 District title goes West

HOCKEY: Gordon Amour (Glasgow School of Sport) scored two goals and helped West beat East 5-2 in the final of the Scottish Under-18 Inter District Championships at Peffermill in Edinburgh.

In the initial stages, West beat East 4-3 with Jack McAlister (Glasgow School of Sport) scoring the winning goal in extra time.

In the final play-off, the score was 2-2 at half-time. But Amour’s second goal put the side ahead and further goals from Andrew Duff (Glasgow School of Sport) and McAlister sealed the win.

It was another Glasgow School of Sport pupil, Archie Breckenridge, who scored the first goal in the final with Angus Robb (Loretto) and Aedan McCrossen (Edinburgh University) snatching goals for East.

The under-16 Championship was run on a round-robin format and East beat Highland, North and West and drew with Midland to come out on top. West finished second.

Patrick Christie (Edinburgh Academy) was one of the stars of the victorious team. Just 15, the midfielder is set to go into his second year as a member of the Scottish under-16 team.

Callum McLeod, the Scottish Performance Manager, was an interested spectator at Peffermill, which doubled as the international trials.

This weekend at Peffermill it is the girls’ turn. The under-18 and under-16 inter district championships take place on Saturday and Sunday at the National Hockey Academy.
