Third Division round-up: Livingston show champions quality

LIVINGSTON turned on the style as champions as they won 5-0 at bottom club Montrose.

Andrew Halliday opened the scoring five minutes from half time with Raffaele de Vita and then Halliday netting again within eight minutes of the resumption. Defender Paul Watson headed home in fine style before substitute Keaghan Jacobs completed the scoring.

The Links Park side will now finish at the bottom of the SFL with assistant manager Jim Moffat saying: "We have no complaints, Livingston showed why they are the champions."

Second-placed Forfar went down 2-0 at Stranraer, who scored through Murray Henderson and a Scott Agnew penalty in the first half to ensure that the race to claim home advantage in the second leg of the play-offs will go until the last week.

East Stirlingshire closed to within a point of Forfar after their 3-1 win over Annan where Derek Ure and Simon Lynch had them two ahead at half-time. Mike Jack pulled a goal back, but David Dunn restored the two-goal advantage within 60 seconds.

Albion Rovers now have the third play-off spot in their hands thanks to Chris Boyle and Mick O'Byrne's first-half goals in their 2-1 win at Berwick. The Borderers' reply came through a spectacular strike from Damon Gray. The Coatbridge side have a game in hand over Queen's Park which will be used up tomorrow night at Almondvale.

Queen's Park's quest for a promotion place fell out of their control as Elgin won 1-0 at Hampden thanks to a Shane Sutherland strike.
